Portrait in pastels

I LOVE PASTELS because it’s a very forgiving medium and one I think brings out the sketcher in me. I can work without having to mix colours which is such a delight, as mixing colours often takes away some of the ebb and flow in my painting process. Pastels are so immediate, alive and fresh that I honestly think it is the medium that can give the most vibrant colours, as we get the opportunity to work with almost pure pigment.

I don’t often use this mediam as much as I should but whenever I do, it gives me a thrill and surge and reminds me I really think I should be doing more pastels.
