But more than anything, Stephen Reid and his wife Dsjwende – known as Wendy – loved helping other people.
The couple first met and fell in love in Washington DC in the early 1980s, when Wendy, a star basketball player from Benin, West Africa, relocated to the US.
After marrying and having two children, they’d dedicated themselves to humanitarian work.
Stephen led agencies distributing US government aid.
Wendy worked with refugees.
Over the years, the couple lived all over the world, from Niger to Haiti, helping vulnerable communities.
