• As summer draws to a close, get prepared for next year by saving some of your bean seeds as plants dry off. Choose some from your best plants; that are vigorous and have produced good sized pods. Try not to collect seeds from plants that had a short season or suffered more from pests or diseases than other bean plants. If you share your harvesting space with friends, family or community make sure to tie a little sign around your chosen pods, or even cover them with an open weave mesh such as an old onion bag or similar, to prevent them being picked.
