1 Early autumn is a great time to plant garlic. Choose a sunny spot with well-drained soil, and prepare the soil well. Add 25 millimetres of well-rotted manure and 50 millimetres of mature compost over the surface of the soil as well as a light sprinkle of blood and bone per square metre, and dig all of this through well.
