THE lack of jobs and low salaries are pushing many young South Africans to pursue teaching English as a foreign language, either online or abroad.
According to the latest statistics, South Africa’s unemployment rate, especially among the youth, is at an all-time high.
On February 20, Statistics South Africa released its quarterly labour force survey (QLFS) for the fourth quarter of last year, which indicated that the official unemployment rate was 32.1%.
The QLFS indicated that the number of employed persons decreased by 22 000, to 16.7 million in the fourth quarter. The number of unemployed persons increased by 46 000 to 7.9 million during the same quarter.
According to the report, youth aged between 15 and 34, remained vulnerable in the labour market.
The total number of unemployed youth increased by 87 000 to 4.7 million, while there was
