RECENTLY I had the pleasure to have an old bird friend, Ron Howe – a fine old man well into his eighties – call around and have a look at the birds. Ron's visit got me thinking.
One of the great aspects of the fancy is that it can involve people of all ages: literally from childhood well into retirement. When you are starting out, there is usuallyto these old hands. And even if our birdkeeping directions move apart, perhaps because we keep a different breed or travel further afield for specialist shows while our mentors stay local, we should always make the effort to stay in touch, or return the favours that they gave us in the past.
