We’ve been following Indigenous fashion designer and activist Stephanie Crowchild’s burgeoning career since featuring her stunning work in our fall fashion shoot in 2022. Between having her designs showcased in multiple publications and collaborating with industry giants such as Pendleton and Hudson Bay, Crowchild is an unstoppable force. Witness her recent groundbreaking show, when she brought her creations for a second time to NewYork Fashion Week. We were lucky enough to be on hand to interview her backstage and then see the runway show.
C&I: Stephanie, it’s wonderful to see you again. It’s been well over a year and a half since our photo shoot in Texas at TR9 Ranch. We were all racing around and I didn’t get a chance to speak with you one-on-one. Tell me a little bit about yourself — let’s start with where you’re from.
: Tsuu T’ina Nation, which is a Dene Nation in Treaty 7 area of Canada. In Canada there are 11 treaty territories, 1 to 11. Each province is within a different treaty. We’re in the 7 area, which is southern Alberta. Alberta is within Treaty 6, 7, and 8. I’m half Dene from Tsuu T’ina and half Cree from Saddle Lake, which is
