Experts to help solve the water crisis

FAILURE TO MEET DEADLINES

THE South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) is putting together a panel of experts to find a solution to the water crisis in areas north of Durban because it believes eThekwini Municipality does not have capacity to turn the situation around.

Last week, the Department of Water and Sanitation and the municipality failed to meet their own deadlines to restore water to communities.

Senzo Mchunu, the Minister for Water and Sanitation, assured residents that water would be restored by February 15. However, a day before the deadline, Musa Mbhele, the city manager, announced that the restoration would be delayed by a week as six valves needed to
