RIBBED AND LIDDED PINCH POT

DIFFICULTY RATING

You will need:

Preferably a smooth clay of choice, earthenware or stoneware – any colour
Ribs and general tools
Glaze of choice to fit clay type

1 Begin with a ball of well-prepared clay, large enough to fit in the palm of your hand comfortably.

2 Press your thumb into the centre of the ball until you can feel some pressure in your palm, then begin to pinch the clay wall at the base between your fingers and thumb. Establishing the thickness at the base first is important because it will become harder to reach as the shape grows.

Work with a rhythmical action, regularly turning the form to ensure an even wall thickness.
