Am I a highly sensitive person… or just an emotional wreck?

Here’s a list of things I’ve cried over: adverts, dead goldfish, The Simpsons, falling out with a mate (I am talking 45 minutes of wailing after school). When a man blocked me with his briefcase from getting on the subway “because he was first” (he wasn’t), rage-induced tears flowed in public. Yesterday, reading about long Covid left a breeze block in my throat.

These are all incidents I have never given much thought to (I mean, it’s adorable how much Homer loves Maggie…and clearly, I have daddy issues), but when I started seeing videos about being a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP) all over socials, and heard Lorde and Nicole Kidman both identifying as such, I started to wonder: could I also be an HSP?
