Repot pond plants

Pot on marginal pond plants that have filled their baskets before they start rooting into surrounding sediment. It keeps their growth fresh and healthy too. Soak the repotted basket thoroughly before you lower it back into the pond so that the compost doesn’t float away or colour the water.

1 LIFT the plant carefully out of the water. If roots have grown through the basket, cut it down one side to free the plant.

2 SELECT a pond basket 10cm bigger in diameter and repot the plant using soil-based aquatic compost or John Innes No. 2.
