In Yesteryear’s Footsteps
Here’s a very grateful compliment to for publishing in the January/February 2024 issue. His selection of photos matched the excellence of his prose. After the jibboom “snapped off like a tree limb,” Captain Jeff and crew responded to the challenge just like those fabled iron men on wooden ships two centuries ago. During a midsummer day in 2012, while alone on the hook in the lee of an island in southern Georgian Bay and anticipating a tall ships rendezvous at a nearby port, I was thrilled to watch this splendid topsail schooner ghosting up and dropping her 850-pound anchor within about a cable’s length of my sloop. Scott is looking forward to another opportunity to crew aboard , possibly on her Great Lakes visit in 2025. To be up close to her again is on my calendar too.
