NEWS REPORT

Hello Trappers,

Well, it’s January as I write this article. Trapping season is in full swing and seeing pictures on Facebook makes me think back to days with my dad on our trapline. One note to mention is that the CTA has an Education Grant program for Connecticut High School Seniors who will be pursuing a career in Wildlife Management, Fisheries Biology, or Conservation Law Enforcement.

The CTA has been contacted by one of DEEP’s Furbearer Biologists with a request for assistance in capturing and collaring fisher for a study in the decline of our fisher population, Mr. Brooke Pitman can be reached at Sessions Woods W.M.A. at 860-424-3722 if you catch a fisher. The other study that DEEP is conducting is a gray fox study, contact Sessions Woods W.M.A. for details, gift cards for Cabela’s are being given out. Rember to be cautious on ice (if we get any) as carrying trapping gear and your catch adds weight to a very small area and can result in disaster.

Our Legislative Session will be starting up in February and as always your Legislative Committee will be keeping a very close watch on the entire session and will keep you informed as to any actions that might be needed. AS always all B.O.D. meetings are open to all CTA members and Zoom is also available, contact me with your email address if you wish to attend via zoom.

There are a couple shows coming up, Mohegan Sun and the Big E, contact Bob Andtysick or Donna Peck for details and hopefully fill a slot to work our booth, your help is always greatly appreciated.
