PRESIDENT’S REPORT
After returning from Washington DC last night I can say that things have much broader ramifications if they are not dealt with appropriately, not only at the State level but on the Federal sides of things as well.
Myself, and 10 other Colorado Sportsmen and Women piggybacked on a scheduling opportunity with Safari Club International where we directly engaged with not only the majority of our Colorado elected Federal delegation but with other Senators and Representatives from Kansas, Wyoming and California as well.
A big thanks to my partners in arms including, Brett Axton with Safari Club International, Mia Anstine, SCI, Wes Mendez, Colorado Bowhunters, Jenny Burbey, Colorado Outfitters Association, Justin Nolan, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Chris Jurney, Colorado Conservation Alliance, Heather Riley, Colorado Farm Bureau, former CPW Director Dan Prenzlow. This power house coalition worked on behalf of all Colorado Sportsmen and Women with over a dozen meetings not including dinners and receptions. It is obvious that this is something that needed to be done for a long time and with the partnerships that have been built through the efforts through the Coloradans for Responsible Wildlife Management it is even more obvious that this has been a piece that has been missing out of the puzzle for at least as long as I have been playing this game.
As the Colorado Legislature completed it’s session on May 8th it is obvious that the opposition continues to maintain it’s stronghold and our industry partners continue to scramble on everything from guns, to wolves to land use and infringements on our rights and privileges in this State. The cross-over between Federal and State Conversation issues is becoming more of a regular issue and without us trying to invoke our concerns and educate the Legislators we might find ourselves in a deep hole with no way out except to dig deeper.
My challenge to each and everyone of you is to look behind the scenes and see what is happening at the State house because it is not all about the small stuff. The big stuff is taking center stage and conservation is being bastardized when we use the term and pedalalized when our enemies do.
Once again plan on the “Outdoorsman Days” Event which will be our convention for this year. It is August 11th and 12th and is located at Pathfinder Regional Park Event Center, 6655 State Hwy 115, Florence, CO 81226.
You can go to Coloradooutdoorsmansdays.com or coloradotrapper.com for Vendor, Sponsor and Event information. You can also call 719 275-4077 or email at office@coltpha.com. Look up the Flie for the Sponss that are helping to kick into this event to be a success. There will be onsite camping, vendors, demonstrations and seminars, competitions, hunter education classes, kids fishing derby, a Friday Night Predator Documentary and Dinner along with a big Saturday Night Banquet, Raffles and Auction that will help in the fight for our survival on the landscape and lobbying representation at the State Capitol.
If you haven’t attended this function in quite a while make plans to do so. If you have attended recently this will be much bigger than we have had in the past.
The Fur Market might be down overall. You might not plan to engage in the fight or in the pursuit this year. You might not have the time but do us all a favor, make the time. Show the effort, support the cause. Help fight for your tradition. It’s all hands on deck and this is a critical moment.
We are looking for help. We are looking for volunteers. We are looking for donations and sponsors and vendors. We are looking
