‘We used common sense for safety’

WHEN the Wylye Valley branch of the Pony Club’s annual camp first came to my home at Southfield House more than 50 years ago, up to 100 children slept under canvas, supplied by the Army for a week, and were fed in the renovated chicken house. The boys’ tents were on one side of the drive and the girls’ on the other side – with no crossing allowed.
