Ex-Illinois state legislator going on trial on tax counts stemming from Madigan probe

CHICAGO — Former Democratic state legislator Annazette Collins is scheduled to go on trial on federal tax charges Tuesday, nearly three years after she was indicted amid the sprawling investigation into an alleged scheme by Commonwealth Edison to bribe then-Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan.

Collins, 61, who worked as a ComEd lobbyist after her career in Springfield ended more than a decade ago, on federal charges alleging she underreported income and failed to file federal income tax returns for her lobbying and consulting firm.
