2018 SWIFT VOGUE 695
Callum the stag peered cautiously around the corner of the motorhome, his nose twitching in the air. Behind him the clouds wrapped gently around the mountaintops and a light rain began to fall. It was July 2023. We had met Callum a year earlier when we visited Wester Ross for the first time in our VW camper.
Apparently, Callum had been injured a few years ago, so he no longer runs with a herd. Instead, he opts to hang around a car park on the single-track A832 awaiting tourists and, hopefully, a nice selection of apples. Callum hadn't changed in a year, we hadn't changed much, but our ‘van had.
WHY WE MOTORHOME
We've always loved the outdoors, hiking, walking and getting away from it all. Tents were the first port of call, but after a few washed out summers with one particular sketchy, stormy night in Glencoe, Scotland, we started to consider other options.
The Covid pandemic slowed down our searching, but soon after we were lucky enough to get our hands on a VW T6 conversion. It suited us and our two children (now aged five and three) for just under two years.
Then, the children started to grow bigger, and we wanted more space and facilities on board.
So, in October 2022, we switched from our Volkswagen T6 campervan to a 2018 Swift Vogue 695 motorhome.
The Swift is a six-berth motorhome with rear bunk beds and is a dealer special of the Escape 695, so came with some added extras and a grey colour to the cab.
DRIVING
When we drove away from the dealership, one of the obvious differences between our new Swift and our previous VW was the driving experience. It wasn't our first timehired a motorhome on a previous trip to New Zealand.
