NUCLEAR ERF

I was until recently a subscriber of Vintage Roadscene and have collected them since 1989.

I noticed in last month s magazine there was an article by David Vaughan entitled Old Dogs - New Tricks Part 2. On page 15 there was a photograph of an ERF six-wheel tractor unit, registration number YSM 531, being used by a showman. He asked if anybody had any information on its original owner.

This vehicle was one of four identical tractor units purchased by British Nuclear Fuels of Sellafield in 1958 to move flasks of radioactive material. The vehicle was used in conjunction with a specially-built 50ton capacity Dyson low loader trailer.

Vehicle Details

Model: ERF 6x4 Tractor unit, type KV 66RH

Engine: Rolls Royce C6NFR, 200bhp, 12.17 litre, sixcylinder diesel engine.
