MR MARSHALL’S MERCS

Back in December, we featured Phil Marshall’s fine restored 1966 Commer Maxiload on the front cover. As we finished our photoshoot, Phil asked photographer Martyn and I if we would be interested in taking a look at “my other lorries which are a bit younger but still in regular use.” We of course said yes, and were led to another part of Phil’s yard, where we were introduced to his pair of Mercedes TN-series lorries. Both, it would be fair to say, are ‘semi preserved’ in that although prized, cherished and looked after, they still work on occasions within Phil’s garage business.

To explain all this a little more, we first need to recap slightly on Phil’s life so far. Inhis own HGV training as soon as he was old enough and then becoming an employed HGV driver first on overnight container work and then driving a concrete mixer. In time he then moved over to fixing lorries rather than driving and in 1999 started his own car and commercial vehicle repair business which this year celebrates its 25th anniversary.
