GET GROWING SEED SPROUTS

Seed sprouts are often confined to winter sowing when pickings outside may be slim and when growth is slow even in the polytunnel or greenhouse. However, they are a great and relatively cheap way of producing nutritious, fresh greens at any time and so fast (you can be harvesting most within three to four days) they can be used as a stopgap while other salads are maturing.

There is a great selection available from specialists and while many have a fairly neutral if crispy, fresh flavour, some, such as mustards, onions and fenugreek, are highly distinctive.
