WHETHER IT’S a larger house, an exotic holiday or perfectly white teeth, we all dream of things we can’t afford.

Jaguar enthusiast, Peter Twyford, was no different when in the late Seventies he wanted an XJ-S. But whereas the majority of us either give up on our goal or get ourselves into debt by chasing it, he came up with a unique yet affordable solution – he built his own.

According to Peter’s son, Mark, who owns the car today, his late father was a Jaguar fanatic who at the time owned a MkX, an E-Type Series 1 he’d recently restored plus a XK120 still in bits (all of which Mark still owns).

He also had a Range Rover for work but in around 1978 he started wanting an everyday Jaguar instead. Says Mark: “He quite liked the XJ-S which was unusual because enthusiasts were not the greatest fans of the car when it first came out due to its different looks and thirsty V12.”
