Farm Week, 1969

I am asking for help to research an extraordinary, never-to-be-repeated event that took place in Melbourne on 24 July, 1969 – the day that the Apollo 11 crew splashed back to Earth after the Moon landing.

Monash University students had organised their annual Farm Week; a week of crazy activities, both brazen and daring. One involved kidnapping celebrities (for charity) and parading them at the university. Two such victims were Myer CEO Ken Myer as well as entertainer Barry Humphries.

Even more extraordinary was a race by any means, from the top of the Redmond Barry Building at Melbourne University to the top of the Robert Menzies Building at Monash University. The race ended up being a battle for honours between two students in a helicopter and a number of students riding motorcycles.
