THE CURE

One of the first things my uncle taught me was how to tie an egg loop knot. He sat there and handed me hooks and leaders until I had tied 50 rigs. Then he taught me to cure salmon and steelhead eggs. We could walk to the river back then, or take the pickup when grandma wasn’t looking, and we’d drown steelhead eggs to catch more steelhead.
