My travels this past November led to a couple unusual experiences. Mid-month found me attending two shows over an 11-day span. The first experience was new: my first attendance at the Great Southwest Coin Expo event of the venerable Albuquerque Coin Club (ACC, founded 1953). The second was taking in a traditional outing presented at a new venue and schedule slot, the 67th anniversary fall convention of the Michigan State Numismatic Society (founded 1956). This year, it was relocated to the northwest Detroit suburb of Southfield, shifting to the weekend before Thanksgiving.
My travels to Albuquerque, N.M., commenced with an early morning drive to the Appleton, Wis., airport on Thursday, getting me there with ample time to spare for boarding the scheduled United Express departure to Denver at 8:32 a.m. As the prior evening flight into Appleton, the aircraft scheduled for my departure had been diverted to Milwaukee due to weather. By the time it could be crewed and moved to Appleton, the flight did not leave until 11:10 a.m. The departure flight path provided a nice view of Waupaca and Long Lake, where we live.
The flight arrived in Denver at 12:50 p.m., with my only available connecting flight not scheduled to depart until 8:51 in the evening. So I opted to enjoy a relaxing lunch at Elway’s – charred red pepper soup and a house salad
