AS A RESIDENT OF ILLINOIS, we do not have many opportunities to trap bobcats. Our DNR limits the number of permits that can be handed out and let’s just say the number is not very high. Even with my limited experience in Illinois trapping felines, I have been fortunate to have trapped them in Texas and South Carolina, with some success, I might add.
Just about any set that can catch a coyote or fox can catch a bobcat. I even caught and held a big male bobcat in 1½ Duke a few years ago. Unfortunately, the cat was caught in Illinois, so I had to immediately release it since I did not hold one of the coveted Illinois bobcat tags. And I still haven’t after all my years of applying.
