Muse: The magazine of science, culture, and smart laughs for kids and children

FROM ICE TO OASIS

You wake up to a room that shimmers and glistens. Every breath you take comes out as a small, misty cloud. Glancing around, you can see that everything, from floor to ceiling, is sculpted from ice. But nothing is melting. The inside temperature is a chilly 20 degrees Fahrenheit (–7 degrees Celsius).

Everything around you, including your bedframe, is frozen. A thermal sleeping bag and reindeer pelt keep you cozy and warm. Soft lighting paints the room with a magical glow. An ice chandelier hangs above, its reflections making you feel as if you’re inside a life-sized snow globe. Even the tables and chairs are beautifully carved ice creations.

Here, artists have turned ice blocks into a work of art that invites you to step inside and stay a while. Welcome
