Having successfully got the engine running last issue with temporary feeds of fuel and electricity, we now turned out attention to the other end of the car and set about plumbing and wiring it in permanently. This 1969 Fiat 500 was bought as an unfinished restoration project that had been sitting for many years after the death of its owner, which meant we were feeling our way as we tried not only to get to grips with an unfamiliar model, but also to figure out what had been done properly and what had simply been thrown back together to get it ready for sale. As a result, we have not been able to tackle everything in the most logical order. Ultimately this does not matter so long as we cover everything in the end, but it did seem odd to spend time sorting the screenwash system before we even had wipers! However, the screenwash pipes run among the electric wires which sit behind the fuel tank, so sometimes you just have to do jobs when the access is good.
Talking of fuel tanks, the one that came with the car contained extremely stale fuel and had been very roughly painted.
