IT’S supposed to be the happiest time of the year but for Pippie Kruger and her family, the festive season will always be a reminder of the day their lives changed forever.

Pippie was a toddler when she sustained third-degree burns over 80% of her body after fire-starter gel exploded at a New Year’s Eve braai at their home in Lephalale, Limpopo, in 2011, turning her into a human torch.

But a lot has changed in the years that followed. Pippie is 14 now and “she’s a full-blown teenager,” her mom, Anicè Kruger, tells YOU from their home in Stilbaai in the Western Cape.
