A world in colour

Colour is the flavour of painting, whilst value is the substance. If you compare these elements to, say, cooking, adding flavour either makes or breaks a dish whilst substance and texture is the bedrock of a recipe. In painting terms, value is the solid structure on which the piece is built. Colour is the visual element that can make the difference between an ordinary looking painting and a wow factor artwork.
