Q The joint on one of my rods keeps getting stuck. It’s very hard to get it apart after some fishing sessions. It doesn’t appear to be dirty. What is the best way to fix this issue?

This is a very common occurrence with carbon fibre rod joints. The spigot joint (technical name) often gets a build-up of carbon dust, grit, salt and other contaminating particles. This not only leads to the male and female joints not going together well, or not coming apart, it also leads to the joints wearing faster than they ordinarily would if they were cleaned regularly. Joints, like any working parts, need a little maintenance or care. What most anglers do is to take the butt cap off the rod, and run warm soapy water through, and rinse. Also wipe the male joint clean. A bottle brush will help you clean the female joint. In my experience, the best thing to clean rod joints with is a dry PTFE spray lubricant. It’s
