Q When tying a casting rig, what is the correct length of snood, so that I am confident it can easily unclip from impact bait shield when the line is fully cast out? Should the snood length be the same length as the impact bait shield, longer or shorter?

The simple answer is that snood or hook length of line is up to you. This will depend on the type of rig you are using with the Breakaway impact shield. Some anglers deploy the shields with fixed paternoster systems or even pulley rigs. The action of the lead and shield hitting the water is what releases the baited hook. The impact shield pushes against the crimp and bead above the shield, this is what frees the hook. Something which is very important is to make sure that the crimp and bead are directly above the shield, there must not be much of a gap, ideally have them
