Hi John,
I look forward to reading Caravan World each month and enjoy the variety of articles.
You regularly have van test drive articles and often use different tow vehicles in that process.
It is interesting there is never a comment regarding problems with towball height and caravan setup in these articles. Does this mean you know what vehicle will work each time, or is there not much concern if van might be sitting nose up in regard to the car?
I ask this due to personal experience this year. We picked up a new LandCruiser 300 Series in March and had the standard Toyota towball fitting added on delivery. We collected a new Crusader Musketeer Treville in July. The dealer commented on handover that we would need to lower our towball by 50mm. We decided to wait until we actually loaded the van and car to ensure it was ready to travel. We had the van/car professionally weighed and were told weour towball height by 90mm. We have now bought a Hayman Reese drop hitch which will hopefully sort out this problem — the test run is next week when we take the van down for its first service.
