WHEN I was a young man, a lady said to me she thought I had really good straight teeth and asked if they were false. As a joke, I said they were. She then remarked: “I thought so, you made a mistake choosing to have them so white!“ Of course they were normal colour, but teeth were not looked after as they are now and I was fortunate to have good genes.
Yet the fashion now isThroughout history, humans' idea of beauty has changed. Once, being overweight was seen as a sign of importance. The reason was that the more wealthy person could afford plenty of food and had no need to do manual work. The rest of the population had to work hard on a basic diet. Yet it could be seen that the favoured people were not so successful in producing offspring, whereas the poor could count on large families.
