WE SHOULD never underestimate the value of outcrossing and pedigree breeding. Let’s check we understand the two techniques.
■ Outcrossing is when we bring in an unrelated bird to a pedigree stud which is probably better described as a closely related stud.
■ Pedigree breeding is starting with a top-quality bird, or even two brothers, pairing to get youngsters and then pairing cousins and half brothers and sisters together. When establishing that pedigree family, it’s all about breeding birds that are related and can be traced back to the original bird or birds.
