It happened, the stars aligned and a golden opportunity finally arose for us here at Scootering magazine to present a new auto-based tech series – all we had to do was decide which machine to start with and get cracking. As the series proceeds, we will of course expand the articles to include other popular automatic makes and models, but to begin with, what better place than the air-cooled Royal Alloy GT125 with its ever-popular GY6 motor? As the GY6 motor is currently one of the most used scooter engines on the planet the series also works for owners of other marques, everything from AJS to SYM. Later we’ll expand to 200cc, 300cc, and liquid-cooled motors further down the road; start with the basics and work our way up!

So, with that brief in mind, we just had to find a suitable dyno donkey for me to work my magic on, and then take out to the open roads for test runs and rides. Happy days! This particular machine was brought to our attention as its £2000 asking price seemed in line with current market values, and, for whatever reason, the previous owner had only managed just under 900 miles on this three-year-old scooter, which is great for us, as it’s still standard and barely run in! It looks like the machine has been kept outside under a tarp, as there are bits of superficial rust here

Moving Targets: Rennie Innocenti
This is a bit of a strange book on many counts. Despite weighing in at less than a hundred pages, it manages to pack in an authentic-feeling tale of the rise and fall of a scooter club in the early to mid 80s, a love story, a murder, poetry and a tal
