Commentary: Journalists are dying at a staggering rate in the Israel-Hamas war

Thousands of civilians, both Palestinians and Israelis, have died since Oct. 7, 2023, after Palestinian Hamas militants based in the Gaza Strip entered southern Israel in an unprecedented attack triggering a war declared by Israel on Hamas with retaliatory bombings on Gaza.

The rising death toll for members of the media unfolded as the United Nations marked the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes Against on Nov. 2 with a stark warning that reporters around the world are increasingly under attack as they cover not just war but also everything from elections to protests and riots.
