    The brutal calculus of war: Is the killing of civilians ever justified?

    Israel is coming under mounting criticism for its actions in Gaza where more than 11,000 people have been killed, according to Palestinian officials, the vast majority of them civilians. This follows Hamas's attack on Israel last month that killed around 1,200 people.

    That's about 200 fewer victims than Israel had been citing for more than a month. In a text message to journalists on Friday, a spokesperson from Israel's Foreign Ministry said "around 1,200" is
