GWM’s latest ute, the Cannon, has grown in size to match the proportions of the top-selling Toyota HiLux and Ford Ranger, and it certainly looks the business in the metal.

There are six models in the new GWM double cab ute range: the Cannon 4x2 ($35,990 drive-away), Cannon 4x4 ($38,990), Cannon-L ($42,490), Cannon-X ($45,490), Vanta, at $46,490 and XSR at $52,990.We tested the middle-of-the-road Cannon-L.

All models are powered by a 120kW/400Nm 2.0-litre turbo diesel
