Indian automotive giant Mahindra has now moved into the mainstream market with two family-sized wagons, the 2.0-litre turbopetrol/front-wheel drive XUV700 seven-seater SUV, and the 2.2-litre turbodiesel Scorpio six-seater 4x4.
Pricetags that are $10,000 or more below the established players are designed to get Mahindra on to buyers’ shopping radar.
The Scorpio Z8 costs $41,990 drive away. In terms of size, seats and genuine 4x4 capability, its main rivals are Toyota’s Landcruiser Prado
