n August 2021, the North Carolina-based Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI) made history by legalizing medical cannabis within their, legalizing adult-use cannabis will benefit the tribe in numerous ways. “The demand to work with Qualla [LLC] is both over-whelming and humbling; Qualla has received hundreds of job applications, and that number grows each week. This makes sense because we are making history,” the opinion piece stated. “Plus, when North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and other states eventually follow the Cherokee’s lead and legal-ize adult-use cannabis (as they will), our employees will have [an] unrivaled experience.” Now that the referendum has passed, the EBCI tribal council will begin to develop official legislation to regulate legal cannabis.
