COMMERCIAL APPEAL

I was very pleased to see Dave Simpson’s excellent article on The Adverts, an often overlooked and underappreciated band, in the December issue of Uncut [Take 319]. They happened to be the very first band I went to see live (at Wakefield Unity Hall in September 1977) and I still have great memories of the gig despite the rain of spittle! TV Smith was the best lyricist/vocalist of all the punk bands and is still performing today with the same anger, energy and passion. Well worth checking out live as are all his post-Adverts solo albums.
