GOLDEN MILES
Revisiting Miles Davis’ back catalogue [October issue], I’m glad that critics are starting to reconsider his later work. Despite being aware of the early albums, I didn’t know much about Miles’ autumn years. Ever the innovator, Miles referenced pop pioneers like Prince and Green Gartside, blending different styles, resulting in some of the most unusual and eclectic forms of funk, soul and jazz that have ever been heard.

Thanks for writing, and glad you enjoyed the Miles piece. I’m relatively suspicious of ‘lost albums’ like this – especially where substantial work has been done after the event. But Rubberband felt like a legitimate missing piece of Miles’ late period. (MB)
