Scandi tripping

Long Ride

This is the fourth trip we have made to Scandinavia in recent years, different to the last three in that we missed out on Denmark by using an overnight ferry from Kiel in Northern Germany to Gothenburg in Sweden. We were on the Kawasaki W800 again this year, crossing from Newcastle to Amsterdam, then round the north of the Netherlands and Germany. This took four days and, as I have reported on this before, I have omitted it from this feature.

We had a bit of confusion to start – the old route 45 is now the E45, and a motorway – but eventually sorted the out-of-date maps! We took about an hour to Trollhatten on fast, empty roads in mild weather. Coffee in Macdonalds (frequently the only or easiest place to find) just after 11 and then north in warmer weather to have a lunch stop at Amal, but then slower roads and the rain started. Arrived in Toresby at 4.30 to a very nice old farm with ethnic stable-type building, but modern accommodation. Good single-course meal then a short walk after.
