KNITTING INSTRUCTIONS

01 Scarf

approx. 145 x 44 cm excluding fringe

Materials:

Lana Grossa, Lala Berlin Lovely Cotton.

Content: 75 % extrafine merino wool, 25 % cotton.

50 g = 90 m.

6 balls – col 7 natural

6 balls – col 8 charcoal

Knitting needles:

Size 15 mm

Crochet hook:

Size 10 mm for fringes

Tension:

10 stitches and 13.5 rows = 10 x 10 cm in chart pattern with size 15 mm needles and 2 strands held together.

Note: Work with 1 strand of each color held together throughout = 2 strands held together.

Selvage stitches: On every row: Knit through back loop first stitch, slip last stitch purlwise with yarn in front.

Chart pattern: Numbers at left edge of chart indicate WS rows, numbers at right edge of chart indicate RS rows. Chart begins with a WS row. Work to pattern repeat, work 4 stitches between arrows for pattern repeat, work to end of chart. Work rows 1 – 4 once, then repeat rows 3 and 4.

SCARF

Cast on 45 sts using 10mm needles and 2 strands held together.

Work chart for 196 rows and piece measures 144 cm from cast-on.

Cast off all stitches in pattern.

FINISHING

Carefully weave in all ends.

Fringes

For each fringe, cut 6 strands of yarn (3 strands each color), each strand approx. 46 cm long. Insert crochet hook into fabric from WS, fold 6 strands of yarn in half to form a loop, draw loop through fabric, then draw yarn ends through loop and tighten.

Attach 23 fringes along cast-on and bound-off edge (1 fringe in first and then every alternate stitch). Trim fringes to 20 cm.

Tension

15.5 sts and 23 rows = 10 x 10 cm in St st on size 6 mm needles.

When only one figure is given, it applies to both sizes.

Selvage stitches On every row: Sl first st kwise, k last st.

Rib patt K1, p1.

St st K on RS, p on WS.

Two-stitch selvage On RS row, k1, sl 1 pwise wyib, patt to last 2 sts, sl 1 pwise wyib, k1. On WS row, sl 1 pwise wyif, p1, patt to last 2 sts, p1, sl 1 pwise wyif.

Chart patt Numbers at left edge of chart indicate WS rows, number at right edge of chart indicates RS row. Chart begins with a WS row.

Work to patt rep, work 2 sts between arrows for patt rep, work to end of chart.

Work rows 1 – 3 once, then rep rows 2 and 3.

Three-stitch bind off * K2tbl, k2tog tbl, sl 3 sts back to left needle; rep from * until 3 sts rem. Pass 2nd and 3rd st over first st. Cut yarn and fasten off last st.

Full-fashion decrease At beg of RS row, selvage st, k2tog; at end of RS row, work to last 3 sts, skp, selvage st.

Full-fashion increase On RS row: M1R (= lift strand between sts from the back and knit this strand through the front loop), 1 st in from each edge.

BACK

Cast on 93 (99) sts.

Beg and end with a WS row work chart for 47 rows and piece meas 20 cm from cast-on. Place marker in first and last st on last WS row to indicate top of split hem. Next row (RS): K2tog, work in St st to last 2 sts, k2tog = 91 (97) sts. Working first and last st as selvage sts, work in St st for a total of 82 rows and piece meas 36 cm from markers.

Shape sides: Working full-fashion dec, dec 1 st at each end of next RS row, then every alt RS row 2 times, then every foll RS row 5 times = 75 (81) sts. Work even for 13 rows, ending with a WS row. Working full-fashion inc, inc 1 st at each end of next RS row, then every 12th row 1 time = 79 (85) sts. Work even until piece meas 81 cm from cast-on, ending with a WS row.

Shape armholes: Next RS (dec) row: K1, sl 1 pwise wyib, p1 (= sts shown in grey on chart), k2tog, work in St st to last 5 sts, skp, p1, sl 1 pwise wyib, k1 (= sts shown in grey on chart).

Next row (WS): Sl 1 pwise wyif, p1, k1 (= sts shown in grey on chart), work in St st to last 3 sts, k1, p1, sl 1 pwise wyif (= sts shown in grey on chart).

Rep RS dec row 4 more times = 69 (75) sts. Working first 3 sts and last 3 sts as established, work even in St st until armhole meas 18 (19) cm, ending with a WS row.

Shape shoulders: At each shoulder edge bind off 5 (6) sts 1 time, 6 (7) sts 2 times. Place rem 35 sts on holder.

FRONT

Work same as back.

FINISHING

Pin pieces to measurements and block. Sew shoulder and side seams, leaving bottom 20 cm of side seams open for split hem.

Collar: Return 35 held back neck sts and 35 held front neck sts to circular needle, pick up and k 1 st in each shoulder seam = 72 sts. Place beg of rnd marker and join for working in rnds. Work St st in rnds (k every rnd) for 20 rnds and collar meas 9 cm. Work three-stitch bind off very loosely.
