Red Wine–Braised Chuck Roast

HOLIDAYS WARRANT a special meal. And it can be even more special for the host/cook if the feast doesn’t cost an arm and a leg. Enter this red wine–braised beef. The idea is loosely inspired by boeuf bourguignon, a French dish popularized in America by Julia Child. The classic French recipe Child made in the first season of The French Chef has chunks of stew beef braised in what she refers to as a “wine-dark sauce.”
