Cage & Aviary Birds

Variety in focus: pied

BUDGERIGARS

WHEN I started with budgies, dominant pieds were popular and they were frequently winning section awards at the top shows. They were something different at a time when normals and a few cinnamons and opalines were the order of the day.

Recessive pieds were exceptionally poor in quality in those days and were not exactly taken seriously by the majority of fanciers. They really were of a pet standard – even the better ones. We had a breeder in my area who kept a stud of recessives and to be kind to him you would say he bred them to his own standard!

We had oneexhibitor and was out at all the local shows.
