BUDGERIGARS What is the variety like?
There’s nothing too complicated about opalines – but they have certainly posed certainly a challenge in recent times. Simply put, they appear as a normal bird but with body colour in the wings. They first appeared in the 1930s in Scotland and, like many mutations, also appeared in Australia and Belgium at about the same time. The original birds were exceptionally bright in colour, which probably explains where the name “opaline” came from.
Opalines and me
I had a bit of a love-affair with them in the early years. The first decent bird Ihens: a light green and an opaline light green.
