A vivid early memory of a road trip which involved a VW Transporter somehow managing to keep up with a Porsche on a tight and twisty country lane had Jonathan Hastie immediately hooked on the wonders of German Automotive engineering. Fast forward a few decades and he’s successfully managed to combine the best of both worlds with this incredible 3.2 Carrera engined Type 2 Bay Window with air ride suspension.

Born and raised in Canada, Jonathan’s family always had a VW parked on the drive for as long as he can remember. “The first I recall was a diesel Jetta some time in the mid-80s,” he tells us, “my dad replaced it with an Audi 90 which was a rapid car in its day.” As the Hastie family grew larger, so did their mode of transport which eventually resulted in the refined Audi giving way to a spacious VW T25
