On a gloomy Sunday morning, dark clouds blotted the sky and the thud of heavy raindrops on pavement had the finality of canceled plans. Still, that didn’t stop a handful of Porsche 911s—some with Martini livery and Rotiform wheels and some without—a Boxster Spyder, a wrapped Mercedes S-Class coupe, and a totally kitted-out E36 BMW with a front bumper you could plow snow with from showing up. Beneath a vintage Mobil sign and its signature scarlet Pegasus, water beaded on the hood of a navy blue Porsche 912 coupe.
Whether or not they knew each other, the owners had come together for simple reasons: to have some coffee, eat some breakfast, and hang out with other car enthusiasts.
You could easily assign this scene to any of the numerous cars and coffee meetups in Southern California. Perhaps at Deus Ex Machina in Venice. Or maybe even at Jane Motorcycles in Brooklyn if pressed.
