Full of personality, the occasional whine and unable to stay away from the great outdoors, Mark ‘Markie’ Mason Jr. was an eight-year-old boy beaming with courage and strength.

Despite his parents Mark and Maram being divorced, moving on to start new families in Lawrence County, Pennsylvania, this wasn’t a problem for Markie.

In fact, it meant that he was able to enjoy a childhood constantly surrounded by his eight siblings – six of which were all under the age of nine.

And there was one sibling in particular that adored Markie more than most – seven-year-old Matthew.

The pair of fun-loving boys were known to be inseparable, in fact they were the very best of friends.
